Slides by John Reynolds

These are some of the slides I have done myself.  Some are relatively new, some are from when I was a Scout myself.

I thought the Whittlin Jim pattern needed to lighten up a litt.

The original of this was a blank from Rich Richmond. I did the carving, then burned it with a torch. I carved one of these for each member of my Wood Badge patrol who finished his or her ticket and earned the beads.

The was another Rich Richmond blank.  My wife did the painting.  His name is Jimmy, because he's a parreothead.

This Flying Mallard was carved  back when I was a Scout.

A Sundial, in brass; the gnomon is tuned for San Francisco's latitude.

I bought the cylinder because I wanted a two-sided  slide with my Wood Badge signature on it,  carved in relief and in negative.

The OUCH! pattern from Whittlin' Jim

This is a section of caribou antler, carved as a scrimshaw.  I had to do the work with a Dremel tool; that antler is hard!

Just to show that you can make slides from odd things like tie tacks.

This is a bit of meteoric rock; I like walking around with a  slide that's older than the Earth.
PA140001.JPG
I made a bunch of these and gave them away at the 2005 National Jamboree, since I don't collect patches.

This is a ring from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. The clerk at the store thought it was the most intelligent thing he had ever heard, because it's way too tacky to wear.

You can make a perfectly satisfactory tie slide from six inches of copper wire.

I got inspired a week before Halloween and carved this. Then I saw Mike Ward and Whittlin' Jim got there first. Oh, well, it was quick and fun..
